# The ways to Improve Sustainability in Megacities

As a teenager who is about to finish my high school education, I am determined to make a change in the society. I strongly believe that if the world we live in is to have a sustainable future, the cities must make several improvements. In this article, I will be explaining the changes, which can be made to make cities more sustainable.

The first step is to stop the excessive use of cars. The government must create public transportations to reduce the traffic and parking challenges. For example, in London, the city is home to one of the largest transport systems in the world, which includes buses, underground trains, and many more. As a result, cars have been reduced. London people don’t have to worry about parking their cars, and not many people have vehicles. For some people, it is too far from their homes, and for others, it is just not worth the expensive price. I believe that if the government makes public transportations more efficient and affordable, people will rely on them, especially in the inner cities.

On the other hand, the government can also make public transportations more efficient. For example, the Underground and Metro in New York are notoriously known for their crowding, which makes people wait for hours to get home. If the government makes enlargements to the transportations, it will make people more reliant on them.

Another way to make cities more sustainable is to reduce the building of new housing and shops, which are usually made from materials that consume a huge amount of energy. For example, the construction of each house requires a large amount of energy. If people are to get affordable and comfortable living spaces, the government should find alternative materials. These materials are cheaper and environment-friendly.

Although the housing is the first thing for each city, people should be able to find affordable food. For this reason, the government must make the supermarket chains to sell food at low prices. For example, in Singapore, the government has created supermarkets that sell food at a low price, which enables people to buy food easily.

Additionally, people should be able to find affordable and comfortable places to live. If the government makes the rents lower, more people would be able to live in the city. In London, the government has made most of the flats available for people who are under 25 or people who have income less than a certain amount.

To conclude, these are the changes I believe are needed to make cities more sustainable. Although my suggestions may seem far-fetched, I am certain that the world can have a sustainable future through these changes.
